It’s officially Fat Bear Week, and I just had to make my own contribution to celebrate this fun competition! It always amazes me how a bear can just sit in the water and have an unsuspecting salmon fly right into it’s mouth.

What is Fat Bear Week?

Fat Bear Week is an elimination style tournament where the brown bears in Katami National Park compete to be crowned the fattest bear as they prepare for the upcoming winter. If you would like to join in the fun and vote for the next victor, head over to the official Fat Bear Week 2026 website.

Katami National Park also boasts live bear webacms where you can watch the gargantuan contestants hunt for salmon.
